What to Expect at Tingley Field

Tingley Field in Albuquerque is now Tingley Park, a City of Albuquerque park with softball fields, a grassy field, shaded playgrounds and a picnic area. Tennis courts sit across 8th Street. The former stadium site has been redeveloped into softball diamonds, so the place’s baseball history and current park use meet on the same grounds.

Tingley Field was dedicated in 1932 and hosted Albuquerque’s first professional baseball game on April 6 of that year. Professional baseball continued there until Albuquerque Sports Stadium opened in 1969.

The park is about a 7-minute drive from Sandia Peak Inn Old Town ABQ a Howard Johnson by Wyndham. For a quieter visit, you can walk the park trail, use the grassy space or stop at the playground; softball games and field access depend on organized use.

Games, Events and Seasonal Activity

Games, Events and Seasonal Activity

The softball fields are a defining feature of Tingley Park, but the City’s park page does not provide a public games or events calendar. For information about the fields, contact the Parks and Recreation Sports Office at 505-224-6682. For game-status information, the City gives 505-768-GAME.

Organized athletic teams and leagues should arrange a Field Use Agreement through the Parks and Recreation Sports Office, rather than apply for a general Park Use Permit. If you’re planning to attend a game, confirm its status before setting out.

Hours, Admission and Use Rules

The City lists Tingley Park hours as 6 am to 10 pm. General park rules prohibit glass containers, vehicles on grass, pony rides and fireworks; tents cannot be staked into the ground.

A Park Use Permit is required for some activities, including events or groups of more than 50 people, organized group recreation, and events that use a substantial portion of a park for 2 hours or more. If your plans involve a group or event, check the official site before you go.

Getting There and Nearby Parking

Getting There and Nearby Parking

The City lists the park at 913 Atlantic SW, at Atlantic and 10th Street. The softball field location is also listed as 550 10th St SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Coal and 10th Street are nearby major cross streets, and the park has on-site parking.

ABQ RIDE routes 53 and 54 are listed for the area. Check current route details with ABQ RIDE before travelling by bus.

Facilities and Accessibility

Tingley Park’s walking trail is 0.6 mile long. It has a sidewalk more than 6 feet wide, with 4-foot-wide gravel sections on two sides. The City also lists lighting along the trail and in the parking lot.

Public restroom hours at the softball fields are 6 am to 10 pm, seven days a week, from March through November. The park’s playgrounds, picnic area and grassy field provide additional space beyond the sports facilities.

Nearby Places to Add to the Visit

A zoo sits across 10th Street from Tingley Park, making it an easy nearby pairing. For a longer outing, use this guide to the ABQ BioPark’s zoo, aquarium and gardens to plan around those attractions. The one-day Albuquerque itinerary offers more ideas for combining stops around the city.
